Deep Dive into Heavy Kicks, Thick Low-End Rumbles/Basslines & Heavy Sound Design

Aidan Rudd is a hypnotic techno producer and DJ based in Naarm (Melbourne), whose sound explores the darker, loop-driven side of the genre.

He started out in Hardgroove before finding real freedom in hypnotic techno, where grooves can be built from sounds and tones that shouldn’t work but somehow lock into place. With releases on Transition, Duplicity, Obscuur and Suara, and support from artists such as Chlar, Alarico, Dax J, Richie Hawtin and Amelie Lens, his tracks are built for the club and made for mixing.

In this 4+ hour masterclass, follow Aidan step by step as he builds a heavy, club-focused track, starting from his template and low-end group and working up to the main synths.

The process unfolds across four parts:

🌱 Part 1 - Deciding on a Layout and Picking a Template

🌱 Part 2 - Creating the Low-End Group

🌱 Part 3 - Adding Some Drums

🌱 Part 4 - Designing the Main Synths/Motif

Learn how Aidan processes his low-end group, uses templates, structures his projects and decides the order of production elements for a streamlined workflow.

Dive into crafting heavy kicks, powerful rumbles, tom basslines and Serum 2 basslines and hooks, including the call-and-response sounds that bring his productions to life. See how he takes presets and reshapes them with extreme processing.

Explore the mixing principles he uses to glue elements together, understand the reasoning behind key production decisions and discover the philosophy behind his sound.
